Fireworks & Eye Safety - What You Need to Know for July 4th

Protecting Your Eyes During Fireworks Season

At Today’s Vision Richmond, we love celebrating the 4th of July—but we’re also here to remind you that fireworks and eye safety go hand in hand. Every year, thousands of people—especially children—suffer eye injuries from fireworks, including items as seemingly harmless as sparklers.

Even small fireworks can burn hot enough to cause serious harm to your vision. As your trusted eye care team, we want your celebrations to be festive and safe.

Here are a few tips to protect your family’s eyes this season:

  • Watch fireworks from a safe distance and leave the launching to professionals

  • Keep kids well away from firework areas

  • Never attempt to relight a firework—soak duds in water

  • Use protective eyewear when handling fireworks

  • Keep a bucket of water close by in case of emergency

If an eye injury does happen, don’t rub or rinse the eye—seek immediate medical attention. Let’s keep the holiday full of sparkle, not accidents!
